Who is Dr Banypersad?

Dr Banypersad is the only Cardiologist to perform weekly sessions of cardiac MRI, CT, TTE and TOE on-site at a District General Hospital in the North West.

Dr Sanjay Banypersad was born and raised in Greater Manchester and attended Bolton School before entering Medical School at the University of Sheffield in 1996. He graduated with a Distinction BMedSci (Hons) in 1999 and later that year he was invited to present his research into Factor V Leiden and venous thrombosis in Washington DC. Dr Banypersad subsequently graduated with my MBChB medical degree in 2002 and he remained in Sheffield for his junior doctor training at the Northern General and Royal Hallamshire Hospitals.

As a registrar, Dr Banypersad has worked in several national centres of excellence, such as the Hammersmith Hospital in London (2005-06) and Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester (2008-09) where he obtained his basic grounding in coronary angiography and pacing. Dr Banypersad also worked at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Salford Royal Hospital and Wigan Infirmary during 2006-10. He achieved his full accreditation with the British Society of Echocardiography for Transthoracic Echo (TTE) during this time.

Dr Banypersad returned to London in 2010 to commence his research at the University College of London (UCL). He ran a weekly cardiac MRI list at the Heart Hospital and 2 Specialist Amyloid clinics per week at the Royal Free Hospital (2010-13). During this time, he also ran a 3 year clinical study using cardiac MRI to non-invasively quantify the extent of scarring or infiltration in cardiomyopathies and assess its role as a marker for treatments. Dr Banypersad collaborated with the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for this pioneering research.
